Dear Friend in Christ,
St. Joseph’s Seminary and College, more commonly known as Dunwoodie, has been the seminary of the Archdiocese of New York since 1896. Located in the city of Yonkers in Westchester County, Dunwoodie is blessed to offer a unique experience of priestly formation in the New York area. Our partner dioceses of Brooklyn and Rockville Centre send seminarians to Dunwoodie for formation, as do the dioceses of Bridgeport, Camden, Newark, and Des Moines. In addition, we are pleased to serve as the theologate for several religious communities and ecclesial movements, such as the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal (CFR), the Institute Id of Christ the Redeemer (Idente Missionaries), the Order of Poor Clerics Regular of the Mother of God of the Pious Schools (Piarists), the Neocathecumenal Way, and the New York Oratory of St. Philip Neri. Finally, we also serve as the theologate for international seminarians from Myanmar, the Ukranian Catholic Eparchy of Stamford, the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem, and the Archdiocese of Kottayam in India.
Saint Joseph’s Seminary offers an excellent program of priestly formation in accord with the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Sixth Edition of the Program of Priestly Formation and the Holy See’s Ratio Fundamentalis. In the Fall 2023, St. Joseph’s Seminary and College will begin the Propaedeutic Stage and the Discipleship Stage, which will complement our well-established Configuration Stage.
The New York City region, with its vast multicultural richness, evokes for our seminarians, from no matter where they hale, the universality of the Church. From Hispanic and other ethnic ministries in the urban setting, as well as from our culturally diverse parishes in the rural and suburban regions, St. Joseph´s seminarians have the opportunity to cultivate the fine art of accompaniment and the pastoral competencies needed in today´s Church.
Feel free to contact us and discover the good things happening at Dunwoodie, the heart of the Church in New York. Our faculty and staff will be happy to answer any questions you have.
Fraternally yours in Christ,
Most Reverend James Massa, Ph.D., D.D.
Auxiliary Bishop of Brooklyn
